Information

Hello TCAT swimmers and parents,
I would like to welcome everyone to the winter session stroke clinic. This winter is all about refining strokes and getting a good feel for the water. Below I have outlined what will be focused on for each group and any special items I would like see the swimmers have. Each item listed is suggested and not mandatory for practice. We do have some materials here at the pool and those will be available to the swimmers. All swimmers are required to bring with them a water bottle. They will get thirsty and I will not stop practice for water breaks. Swimmers will have time between sets to drink pool side.

Behavior policy:
All swimmers are expected to listen and follow direction during practice. Age of swimmers is taken into account. Any swimmer that is disrupting practice or distracting other swimmers will be warned to stop one time. If it continues, the swimmer will be asked to leave practice or will be instructed to perform dry land exercises. This is dependent on what the parent wants.

Medical conditions and concerns:
Any swimmer with a medical condition that would affect their ability to perform a task should email Coach Morgan. Some examples would be Asthma, fractures, torn tangents. All swimmers are expected to do as much as they can. Swimmers are expected to become fatigued, short of breath, and have muscle aches periodically. It is up to the swimmer to identify the difference between these symptoms and that of a problem. Coach Morgan will do his best to work with the parents and swimmer to identify any problems and come up with the best solution for the swimmer.

Level information

Beginner group:
This group will learn about sets and intervals, as well as circle swimming. You can expect this group to mainly be swimming continuously for 25 yards and progressing up to 100 yards by the end of session. This group will be concentrating mainly on Freestyle, backstroke, and racing starts (dives). About mid-session we will start to introduce Breast Stroke. Recommended items: kick board.
Freestyle: hand placement, pulling, rotation, kicking, and rhythmic breathing.
Backstroke: Pulling through the water, rotation, kicking, hand placement and knowing where the wall is.

Intermediate group:
The intermediate group will be working on various drills, breath control, and sets on intervals. This group can expect to start out swimming continuously for 50 yard and building up to 200 yard sets. Our focus will be on Freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly kick and racing starts (dives). Recommended items: kick board
Freestyle: Rhythmic breathing, breath control, pulling though the water, hand placement, turns, stream line, and kicking.
Backstroke: Rotation, pulling, flip turns, kicking, hand placement and streamline.
Breaststroke: pulling, kick, timing/rhythm, and underwater pulls.

Advanced group:
This group will be focusing on all 4 competitive strokes. This group can expect to swim 50 yards – 500 yards continuously. Recommended items: kick board, pull buoy, paddles, and fins. These items will be for sale at the D&J store next to the bleachers. Coach Morgan will let you know what days they will be there and a price for these items. Again, these are only suggested items however; this group will be using all the items throughout the session.
Practices will consist of working on freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and drills will be done for each. Not every practice will we swim all the strokes. The practices will consist of anything from sprint sets, stroke work, breath control, endurance and many other types that Coach Morgan has planned for them.
